Jumpers for Goalposts is a hilarious and heart-warming story about football, friendship and finding your way from Tom Wells, the winner of the George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright 2012 for the critically acclaimed The Kitchen Sink.

Jumpers for Goalposts centres on a team called Barely Athletic who are competing for a trophy in a gay, lesbian and transsexual league in Hull. The play takes place in the changing room after the matches, as the members of Barely Athletic nurse the wounds to both their bodies and their pride.

There is one moment of elation after they have trounced Tranny United, but then that team was playing in stiletto heels!

All the characters in this touching, funny play are depicted with great warmth and understanding.¬†Luke wants Danny, but Danny’s got a secret. Joe’s happy in goal but busker Geoff wants a headline gig. Bossy¬†Viv just wants to beat the lesbians to the league title.

The dialogue is blessed with sharp one-liners and there are strong messages about tolerance and acceptance delivered through the humour.
